Project 365 day 27

Holocaust Memorial Day. I took this shot in appreciation of Holocaust Memorial Day, this prayer was found on a scrap of paper beside the body of a girl who died at Ravensbruck. "Lord, remember not only the men and women of goodwill, but also those of ill will. Do not remember all the sufferings they have inflicted upon us; remember the fruits we bear, thanks to this suffering – our comradeship, our loyalty, our humanity, courage, generosity, the greatness of heart which has grown out of all this. And when they come to judgement, let all the fruits that we have borne be their forgiveness."

Holocaust Memorial Day each 27 January marks a day of remembrance which has now been held in the UK since 2001.
The day is all about remembering those who were victims of the holocaust and how their lives were brutally changed by Nazi persecution.
It also acts as a day of remembrance for more recent genocides in places like Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The date of 27 January was chosen as it is the same date that Aushwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp, was liberated in 1945.
In 2013 the theme of Holocaust Memorial Day is "Communities together: Build a Bridge" and we are being asked to stand by those communities destroyed in the Holocaust.
On the memorial day we can remember those whose lives were changed by learning from these past mistakes and organising local events to inform people and remember the importance of standing up against hatred, discrimination and persecution.
From lighting a candle, to arranging a whole host of activities in your area, you can find out more about what kind of events you can hold at the Holocaust Memorial Day website. There are information packs and lots of resources available to ensure that we all remember the past and promote diversity, harmony and equality between communities.
